DINING & SHOPPING

As far as shopping and dining go, Gallatin offers more of a small-town atmosphere. You’ll find your generic nationwide grocery stores, but when it comes to retail shopping, local boutiques take the cake over big-box stores. The same can really be said for dining. Most of the typical franchise food options surround the area including Cracker Barrel, Buffalo Wild Wings, Whataburger, Longhorn Steakhouse just to name a few, but we recommend checking out the local eateries! Here’s a look at a few of the local favorites:

Originally a prescription drug store with a soda fountain, Swaney Swift’s on the Square quickly became a very popular spot to enjoy malts, shakes and beverages. Reopening in 2015 across from Gallatin’s historic courthouse, it continues to provide a place to gather for great food and fun! Serving a variety of hand-crafted burgers, old fashioned milkshakes and fries, Swaney Swift’s delivers a warm atmosphere with frequent live music and something for everyone.

From steak, to tacos, to pan-seared mahi mahi, Starr Ranch Grill offers contemporary Southern cuisine. Grab a specialty artisan pizza or build your own at Prince St. Pizza & Pub. Top Hog BBQ Restaurant is known for its world-famous barbecue, and the original Campione’s Taste of Chicago brings authentic Chicago-style food to the south. If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, head over to the Ice Cream Social for all things swirled and sweet.

RECREATION

Take a dip at the Tommy Garrott Aquatics Facility – complete with a 50-foot slide, splash pads, water towers and general water chaos that will raise the bar on any watering hole you’ve ever experienced. Miracle Park is the largest all-inclusive park in Tennessee for kids of all abilities. It features a 27,000 sq. ft. universal playground with ramps, wheelchair-accessible swings, gliders, merry-go-rounds, sensory panels, musical instruments, zip-lines and other equipment for individuals of all abilities. It also includes a ball field that is fully wheelchair accessible as well as an 18,000 sq. ft. bicycle “pedal park.”

For the history buffs, plan a visit to Historic Rose Mont and catch a film at the Palace Theatre. It opened as a focal point on the historic downtown square in 1913 and still entertains guests with movies, concerts, and stage productions. If you haven’t noticed yet, the town is situated right on the banks of Old Hickory Lake. There’s also a frisbee disc golf course, skateboard park, golf course, and mountain bike trails at Lock 4 Park.

In the summertime, grab your friends and head down to the 3rd Thursdays on Main Music Festival for some live music, shopping, and fun!

SCHOOLS

Home to the Sumner County School District, Gallatin also boasts six nationally recognized elementary STEM schools (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), one academic magnet school, one virtual high school, and much more. Gallatin is also home to Volunteer State Community College.
